The Walrus Launches Fully Searchable Digital Library Subscriptions through Exact Editions
The Walrus, Canada’s leading independent magazine of ideas, has launched a fully searchable archive of over 130 issues stretching back to 2011 in collaboration with digital platform Exact Editions, which will grow with every new issue published. IP-authenticated subscriptions are available to libraries at universities, colleges and schools internationally across web, iOS and Android devices.
For over two decades, The Walrus has featured award-winning writers and artists exploring issues related to Canada and its place in the world, investing in the idea that a healthy society relies on informed citizens. Published eight times a year, the magazine includes longform journalism, essays, fiction, and poetry and a wry sense of humor that rewards readers seeking a lively literary experience.
Whether for academic research, classroom use, or casual browsing, the new archive opens a window into a comprehensive chunk of The Walrus’ publishing history. Readers at institutions worldwide can engage with archived and new issues through the Exact Editions platform’s intuitive navigation tools, including interactive tables of contents, an advanced search functionality, plain-text reading options, and a Read Aloud tool for increased accessibility.
Bryan Maloney, Director of Audience Engagement at The Walrus, commented: “Launching this new archive for libraries through Exact Editions supports our mission to spark conversation as widely as possible. The platform offers libraries seamless access to 14 years’ worth of journalism that has helped shape the national dialogue in Canada at the click of a button.”
Daryl Rayner, Managing Director of Exact Editions, remarked: “The Walrus has long been a vital part of Canada’s cultural landscape. We are delighted to work with them to expand the publication’s reach into more institutions worldwide, allowing students to engage with their rich mix of journalism and creative work that sit side by side in each issue.”
