The American Guild of Organists Digitises Complete Archive for Members & Subscribers
The entire archive of The American Organist, the flagship title of the American Guild of Organists (AGO), is available in a fully searchable and accessible digital edition through Exact Editions. The archive, which stretches back to 1967 and includes over 675 issues, is available to individuals and institutions across the web, iOS and Android devices via subscription, and also included with AGO membership on their website.
Published monthly as the official journal of the AGO and the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America, The American Organist is the most widely read journal devoted to organ and choral music in the world. Each issue includes feature articles on organs old and new, composers beloved and unfamiliar, in-depth musical analysis, performance practice and historical curiosities. Additional features include interviews with leading musicians and organbuilders; reviews of recordings, scores, and books; several monthly columns; news of appointments, competitions, premieres, and new organ projects; reports on the activities of AGO chapters throughout the United States and beyond; new choral and organ scores; and the occasional short story.
The Exact Editions platform boasts an advanced search function that allows readers to pinpoint keywords in individual issues, years, decades or the archive. Libraries can subscribe for IP-authenticated access for their patrons both on site and remotely, whilst AGO members can access the archive directly through their login on the Guild’s website.
James E. Thomashower, Executive Director of the AGO, said: “Digitising the complete archive of The American Organist marks an exciting milestone for the Guild and for everyone engaged in or studying the rich history of organ and choral music. The fully searchable format of the archive invites exploration, research, and discovery from members, enthusiasts, students and academics alike.”
Daryl Rayner, Managing Director of Exact Editions, commented: “We are delighted to have partnered with the AGO to bring this remarkable publication to life in a new dynamic digital format, through which readers can now browse every perfectly preserved page of more than five decades of the magazine’s history. Exact Editions is pleased to embark upon expanding the publication’s international reach, particularly amongst the academic community.”
